HISTORY
The fascination and passion for spring production has been with us from the very beginning. Join us on a journey through our history.
- 1927

On 29 December 1927, 16 shareholders subscribed to 70 shares and founded Federnfabrik und Apparatebau AG in Kaltbrunn. In 1928, the Kaltbrunn spring technology pioneers started to produce tension and compression springs using the inventory they had recently acquired in Ebnat-Kappel. The former premises of the Rickentunnel company served as the company site, finally finding a new use after the tunnel was completed in October 1910.
- 1936

In 1936, the company already had twelve employees, and within a few years, the workforce had grown to over 30 employees. Good business and satisfying operating results prompted the Board of Directors to consider a major construction project from 1945 onwards to ensure continued sustainable growth at the Kaltbrunn site. After extensive research, the decision was made in favour of the nearby Obermühle site in Kaltbrunn. This location was to remain the main production site of Federnfabrik und Apparatebau AG Kaltbrunn until after the turn of the millennium.
- 1947

In 1947, the company started production at its new premises on Obermühlestrasse. Steady growth and continued success made it possible to modernise and expand the machinery on an ongoing basis, which also led to a steady increase in production capacity. Just 10 years after the opening of the new site (1957), Federnfabrik und Apparatebau AG in Kaltbrunn had a workforce of over 100 employees.
- 2004

In 2004, Federnfabrik und Apparatebau AG took over the company Straub Federtechnik in Wangs and since then has been producing under the name "Federtechnik Kaltbrunn + Wangs" at two Swiss locations with a total of 210 employees. Almost at the same time, Federnfabrik und Apparatebau AG obtained the ISO TS 16949 certificate, opening the door to the important market in the automotive industry.
- 2007

In 2007, after more than 60 years of production at Obermühlestrasse, the management decided to relocate the entire production to the newly acquired building at Benknerstrasse 54. Today, Federtechnik Kaltbrunn AG develops and produces with state-of-the-art machinery on a total floor space of 17,000 square metres.
- 2008

In February 2008, the owner of the renowned Egli Federnfabrik AG in Dübendorf decided to sell the entire share capital to Federtechnik Kaltbrunn AG. With this merger, Federtechnik expanded its expertise, particularly in the field of laser technology. A team of 250 experienced and motivated specialists guarantees unlimited possibilities in spring technology!
- 2011

At the beginning of 2011, Federtechnik Kaltbrunn AG also acquired the majority of shares in the well-known and internationally active Feinstanz AG Rapperswil-Jona, which has been manufacturing high-precision metal parts with around 70 employees for over 50 years. Feinstanz AG has extensive expertise in fineblanking and metal forming technology at the highest level. With this integration into Federtechnik AG, the group of companies will become an even more complete provider of spring technology and formed parts.
- 2015

At the end of October 2015, the entire production site in Wangs was transferred to the parent company in Kaltbrunn. By pooling expertise and utilising synergies, competitiveness on the international market is further secured.
